Common questions

Where do people buy a bus for a skoolie?

Most retired school buses are sold by school districts and transit agencies at online government auctions such as GovDeals and Public Surplus, usually for a few thousand dollars or less. Dealers sell running, inspected buses for more. This finder searches both.

What size school bus is best for a skoolie?

Short buses (Type A, on a van chassis) are easier to drive and park. Full-size buses give the most living space. Shuttle and cutaway buses are another common start, with fewer windows to close up.

Do I need a CDL to drive a skoolie?

Once it is converted and registered as a motorhome, many states do not require a CDL for personal use, but rules vary by state and by weight. Before conversion, a bus built for 16 or more people needs one under federal rules. Check your state's DMV.

Are these auction links current?

Yes. Each link opens that site's own live search with your distance and price filled in. We do not copy their listings, so counts and prices are always the auction site's own.
